Good times @ Patisserie la Cigogne
甜品 (sweet tooth), 生活 (m-life) June 13th, 2008
Here are some pictures from the Duff’s Wing night’s dessert portion. The desserts @ Patisserie la Cigogne were great! You can also check out their website. Again… our favourites were the “Intense” and “Louis XIV”. Looking at them… so delicate. Wish I could go there again! Argh. Not good … making me hungry at night. -.- Nine of us shared 6 different individual cakes - I think that was a good decision - and maybe that’s also part of the reason why all the cakes taste better :p
This first one is Intense, but the whole size cake looks different. The last one is Louis XIV - very rich and unique.
The morning after Friday
甜品 (sweet tooth), 生活 (m-life), 飲食 (m-food) March 15th, 2008
The morning after the Friday that I’ve quitted my job - I didn’t feel like going to my calligraphy class. Around 10:28am I changed my mind, instead of going to the cultural center, I went to McDonald’s. I didn’t really know why I did that. Maybe, just maybe, people like me always want to do something special on special days like this. One break-up, I took off a ring, another break-up, I bought a ring. Job is job… slightly different. I just wanted to do something outside of my routine.
Parked my car near the corner of one of the ghettos (people say it’s quite dangerous around here, but it looks ok to me) - very nice outside. If you were in Toronto today, you would definitely agree with me. What a nice day. There were a lot of kids in there - March Break it is.
Coffee is one huge market that McDonald’s wants to tap into. Of course this big giant isn’t gonna let Tim Hortons dominate. That’s why McD has all sorts of promotions and commercials, trying to get its coffee out there. Looked at their Cinnamon Melt poster. IT IS very appealing to me. I’d say their billboard ads and radio commercials got me in today. Before 11am - you can get a free coffee with purchase of a cinnamon melt.
The cinnamon melt was pretty good. Nicely fit in this little box, but don’t know why I just felt that I’ve created extra waste. It’s nice, but compare to a paper bag, this packaging seems to be a bit too much. I’d want to love my environment and minimize the waste… however I also know where McD’s coming from. It’s the cinnamon “MELT”… it ain’t gonna look good if it’s stuft in a paper bag. Plus it’s gonna be very messy. Too bad. Mr. Earth.
To be honest, I DO like the coffee. Very nice. Sitting beside the window and read some newspaper. I know, I sound like a retired old lady. lol
It was nice…
3 girls night out (Part 2) - La Bamboche

3 Girls night out - Part 2.
After our Five Doors North visit, I still wasn’t feeling that well. So, we decided to take a walk and go to La Bamboche, which is just right across the street. This place open until 11pm. Took this silhouette snapshot outside the place. Good that the snow wasn’t too bad that night.

Standing in front of these cakes, which ones should I get?! Later… I ended up getting 4 individual cakes for RL and his family. The feedback I got was… the mattcha cream one was a bit too sweet. I think that’s personal preference as well.

So, my girl friends got the Vanille Fromage (left) and Sacher Torte (right). Both of them were very rich.

I ordered a pot of Ginger Lemon Redbush instead. They also got the baguette. So pointy. :p

Just sat there and enjoyed ourselves. There was a Japanese lady (staff) plus us - the only customers there at that time. Nice. SL said she had tried the brunch at this place and really liked it. I should do that sometime as well. They also have wifi but for some reasons the password didn’t work.

Yogoberri
甜品 (sweet tooth), 生活 (m-life), 飲食 (m-food) January 13th, 2008
For those who are not sitting beside me while I’m typing up this post. Background music: Love Song (Playlist 1). RnB matches the mood of this moment.
There are always some places that we drive by many times, but never stop by…check out. This Yoboberri was one of them. Drive along Yonge, this place definitely caught my attention. You know me. I like treasure hunts and when I’m least expecting something, the outcome is usually better. On a weeknight. After gym. The stress-infused body and mind finally got the relief. This time, RL’s 6th sense found me. Trying to think of a place to chat - a flash of green popped into my mind. Thought of this place and decided to give it a try.
(What a coincidence - the other place that I frequent was also in color of green - the Green Grotto) Can’t deny. I do like this color. Good for your eyes.
Not too sure about what had been here before this cafe. The feeling that I got from this entrance is quite… elegant. It makes me think of a night club or something.

Walked up the stairs and came into this place. On the far left there is the small areas that can seat 15-20 people. This is also the area that you can view from outside… when you’re driving on Yonge, checking out the Korean (most likely) girls and guys inside. Then, there is the racks of baked goodies that you can purchase. The racks make a nice natural divider between the seats and the counter.
On the other side, that’s where you order the yogurt icecream. Their yogurt icecream banners were quite catchy. That’s kinda how I got pulled (mentally) into this place. -__- Their yogurt icecream is different from the ones that you get from Yogen Fruz. This one is a bit sweeter and smoother. Instead of blending in the fruits, they only offer two flavors - green tea and original taste (I think) and then put fruits on top of it. I ordered the green tea one + fruit toppings. However, all they have left was some canned fruits. So, I got those instead.

On the far right side, there was also a small seating area. So, in total - rough estimate - max. capacity is about 40. The only server there was a young Korean guy. Service? not much. But then they don’t have service charge either. One man show, it’s good in a way that we were left alone. I like that. Thinking of Green Grotto… since it got so busy, I haven’t been there at night. If I go, I’d go when there’re less people or sometimes no one. Just chill. You know? The only thing about Yogoberri is that they don’t have magazines. So, I’d say this is the place to go if you want some chitchat with friends OR if you want to bring a piece of blank paper and think. The music there was quite upbeat.
Here’s the yogurt icecream. Not bad.

I’m happy to find another place to chill up North. There was a clock that caught our attention. We liked that clock for some reasons. Not sure if it’ll also catch your attention.
BTW, all these pictures are taken using HTC Touch.

Souffle au Chocolat et au Grand Marnier (by JL)
甜品 (sweet tooth), 生活 (m-life), 食譜 (recipe), 飲食 (m-food) February 13th, 2007
“Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration” - This is the phrase that’s always lingering in my mind lately.
Quite a while ago, JL, KC, AH, DC and I went to VN’s house for a baking night. JL, who’s our designated baker in the group, was somehow made to conduct this experience with us. It was her first time making Souffle. By the time I got there, she had already beaten the eggs and mixed with the chocolate. With the reference to the recipe she got from the food network website, she quickly finished the preparation and put the mix in the oven.
The mix gradually raised. Looking through the window, I could feel the excitment of creation (although I didn’t make it). To me, there are two major types of people, creator and maintainer. (Intentionally left out the third type - the beneficiary/enjoyer.) I would say most of the time I’m a maintainer in the house. That’s why I’m always excited to see the creation of stuffs (food).
Can’t remember how long it took… Finally the souffles were done; we took it out and they are ready to be consumed. If you don’t eat them immediately, they’re gonna “fall”. So we all digged in right away. They were good! JL used the orange peel and it went really well with the souffle even though I’m usually not very fond of orange + chocolate.
After that we had the [yellow tail] wine… enjoyed the Bewitched. By the time we finished this movie and started the Finding Neverland, I was totally exhausted. 2:30am. Time to go home… It was a great night. Now that JL is taking baking course, it somehow inspires us (me) that we (I) should also persue whatever we’re (I’m) interested in.
Finally, thank JL for giving me her permission to post the pictures of her souffles on here.
